Bruce J Cohen dalam tulisannya berjudul “Introduction to Sociology” (1979) menyatakan bahwa :

“An institution is a relatively permanent, organized system of social patterns which embodies certain sanctioned and unified behaviors for the puepose and meeting the basic needs of a society”
